Link building pricing: what does a backlink cost?

Short answer: a decent backlink on a real website usually costs somewhere between €50 and €500. Links on big media sites cost more. Anything that costs a few euros is almost never what it claims to be.

What drives the price of a link

  • Organic traffic: sites with real search traffic charge more, and are worth more.
  • Niche: finance, casino, crypto and legal are more expensive than lifestyle or travel.
  • Who writes the article: if the publisher writes it, expect a writing fee on top.
  • Guest post or link insertion: insertions in existing articles are usually cheaper.
  • Sponsored tag: links marked rel=”sponsored” are sometimes priced lower.

How pricing works on Linkbuilding.com

Every publisher sets their own price. You pay that price plus our 25% service fee. Buyers in the Netherlands pay 21% VAT on top; EU businesses with a valid VAT number pay no VAT (reverse charge); buyers outside the EU pay no VAT. There are no subscriptions and no minimum order.

Example: a publisher asks €120 for a guest post. You pay €120 + €30 service fee = €150, plus VAT if it applies. The publisher receives the full €120 once your link is verified.

Link building agency pricing

Agencies usually charge per link or per month. Per-link prices from agencies often run from €150 to €1,000, which includes their research, outreach and margin. Monthly retainers vary hugely. Neither is wrong; what matters is that you know which sites you’re getting.

Why cheap backlinks are expensive

Packages of hundreds of links for a few dollars come from private blog networks, spam directories and comment links. They rarely help, sometimes trigger a manual action, and can take months to clean up with a disavow file.
